How To Find Free Arrest Details, Mugshots & Obtain Police Reports in Pasco County Florida

It is a general rule of thumb to search for the local county jail or sheriff’s office when trying to find out how to look up jail records and find someone’s mugshot. This is because a county jail is usually the only one in the county, meaning all the city and towns within a county send their arrestees to the county jail and typically do not operate their own facilities.

The county jail will generally have a free public records search. Whether the sheriff’s office or another county or state agency is the records custodian for the jail, they will give the public access to inmate information. This information about inmates may not be current to the very minute, as it may take up to 24 hours or more for booking information to be updated on the county jail site.

If you are certain someone you’re looking for has been arrested, you should contact the county jail or local law enforcement agency directly for more information.

Search the Pasco County Jail for Recent Arrests

If you are looking for someone’s Pasco County arrest records, use the Correction Office’s past arrests search.2 This function will provide you with all the above booking information, in addition to whether someone has been released from jail or posted bond.

How To Perform a Free Public Criminal Record Check in Pasco County

Criminal records refer to many different types of Pasco County public records that pertain to a person’s involvement with law enforcement agencies and criminal court cases. Those records include criminal history reports, warrants, probation details, sex offender registries, background check reports and more.

Each of these different types of criminal records is often maintained by a different records custodian. This means you must know what local or statewide agency is responsible for each record type if you want to obtain or review the records.

If you look up someone’s criminal record, it will help you learn about their past criminal history or present situation with the law. Below, you’ll learn how to perform a free criminal record check in Pasco County.

View Criminal Case Information Using the Pasco County Clerk of Circuit Court & County Comptroller

The Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller gives the public access to a free public records repository, including criminal court records. You can utilize the online court records search tool to view all criminal case information about a person who was charged and prosecuted in Pasco County, as long as the case was not expunged.

A screenshot of the search tool to view all criminal case information about a person who was charged and prosecuted in Pasco County, as long as the case was not expunged.

This search function only requires a last name to yield results. By providing additional information such as a first name, date of birth, or an approximation of when the case was filed, your search will be narrowed and provide more accurate results.

Additionally, you should select felony and misdemeanor under court type, as those are the only options that will yield criminal case information. The search results will give you a person’s name, gender, race, address, and number of cases in the database.

When you select the drop-down menu beside a person’s name, it will reveal general information about each case. When you click on a case number, it will reveal all information about a case, including:

  • Charge
  • Docket history
  • Court date
  • Court events
  • Sentencing

The Clerk’s office also offers the public a way to view and print official criminal records through a free official records search.9 To view an individual’s Pasco County criminal records, type in their last name and select the correct document type. If you want to see someone’s criminal convictions, select judgment.

The Pasco County case search will yield results for people with the same last name. All criminal cases are prosecuted by the State of Florida. So, you will know a document concerns a criminal case when the opposing party is the State of Florida.

When you click on the instrument, general information about the case will appear. To view an official image of the document and for printing, click on view document.

How To Get a Background Check Done in Pasco County Florida

There are several reasons as to why a person may want to conduct a personal background check to obtain Pasco County public records.

For example, if you are moving to a new neighborhood and want to find out more information about your neighbors, you can get a background check done on them to find out more about their past criminal history and current standing with the law. You can also learn about a potential date or family member.

You do not need consent from another person to conduct a personal background check. You generally only need to provide the correct spelling of their name for the background check to give you accurate results. When you receive results, never use them to intimidate, harass or otherwise commit illegal activity against another person.

The information contained in a personal background check should be for knowledge purposes only and never as a pretext to commit harmful actions against another.

If you want to conduct a personal background check on someone in Pasco County, you can do so through the Sheriff’s Office. They provide the public with an online background check request. You only need to check the first box labeled Address/Background Checks and give the office as much detailed information about the individual as possible.

You can also choose how you want to receive the background check information, including:

  • Electronic via Records Center
  • Inspect On-site
  • Fax Copies
  • Pick-up Copies
  • Regular Mail

If you elect to receive the results online via the Records Center, you can also see the status of your request in real time. It is unclear how much a personal background check costs, so you should contact the Sheriff’s Administration Office at 727-847-5878 to find out more information.

Additionally, you can submit a local background check form to one of the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office locations below:15

These background checks conducted by the Sheriff’s Office are only local to Pasco County. You will not receive any background information outside of Pasco County. If you are looking for statewide background check information, you must contact the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).16

Professional background checks for the purposes of employment, licensing, firearms, housing, insurance, healthcare positions, and childcare positions require written consent from the background check candidate. Agencies, businesses, and employers that require a professional background check must also abide by the federal FCRA, EEOC, and FTC laws, which are further explained towards the end of this resource.

This type of background check is fingerprint-based and requires a candidate to consent, schedule, and provide their fingerprints for analysis. In Florida, the FDLE provides employers and businesses with an official criminal history check where they can conduct a criminal history search on a candidate for $25. The candidate must then agree and submit to fingerprint testing for comparison and confirmation.

Employers and businesses that request a professional background check will be charged $25, regardless of the results received from the search. They should always provide the most detailed and accurate information so the results are narrowed to the candidate. Otherwise, they will be charged an additional $25 for additional candidate criminal histories.

Citizens’ Rights & Responsibilities Regarding Pasco County Public Records

Accessing public information is a privilege granted by states and localities. When you obtain access to public records information for personal use, you can use this information for any reason that is not criminal in nature. That means the criminal records, background checks, and Pasco County court records that you may obtain about a person cannot be used to stalk, harass, or intimidate the subject of those records.

You should also be careful about how you disseminate that information, particularly on social media. Information can be acquired by a bad actor who may use the information you provided to perform illegal activities like identity theft.

You can acquire most Florida public records information for free using government agency online search tools, and you don’t need the subject’s consent to do so. Citizens also have the right to FOIA requests for documents under the control of government agencies. When used responsibly, this information can help you screen family members, colleagues, potential dates, neighbors and much more.

While using public records information for professional use like employment or licensing, you must abide by the FCRA and federal and local laws.23 For example, an employer has to inform the employee that such information may be used for decisions related to employment–including hiring, firing, and promotion.

Employers are also prohibited from using the information to discriminate against a current or potential employee. Individuals will have the right to file an EEOC complaint against the organization that perpetrated the discrimination.24

The FTC handles background check fraud, particularly when conducted without the subject’s consent.25 Employers must also provide an employee with notice before taking adverse employment action based on background check information.

This resource will help you search and check public records, from arrests and court records to birth certificates and property information. Pasco County public records are available to the members of the public, and anyone can find the information they need by utilizing the convenient search tools, addresses, and databases we’ve shared above.
